I am a designated caregiver for my disable vet husband. I was assigned to community care and the VA pays them for my services and they in turn pay me for being his caregiver. They are withholding ss and Medicare taxes from my paycheck. It's my understanding that caregivers to va spouse is non-taxable income. I have checked with many others and Noone else is paying taxes on their pay. Can you give me your input on this?

Hello Shirleyjean1941,
Thanks for joining us today!
You're correct, it will not be considered as taxable income.
Via the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), relatives, including adult children and even spouses, can be paid to provide care for veterans who are aged, disabled, or have Alzheimer's disease or another type of dementia.
