Using legacy turbotax information while updating to new legal name (reverted to maiden name)

Any tips on navigating a name change while using turbo tax? I reverted to my maiden name. Can I still access all that legacy information on file? I have done everything I need to to with Social Security but while I got a new SS card months ago, they did not update my name anywhere until I called them last week.

If you're using our Online system you should log in using your original user name and password.  Once you have the software installed you can change the name.

If you're using the Desktop version, you should select the file with your previous taxes in it and again change the name in the program.

This is how the IRS verifies Social Security Numbers.

The first and last name on your Social Security card must agree with the first and last name shown on the document submitted as evidence of identity or legal name.

A middle name or suffix is not considered part of the legal name. It does not matter if the middle name or suffix is included, omitted, or incorrectly shown on a Social Security card.

For Social Security Number purposes, your legal name consists of the first (or given name) and last (or family name or surname) that is used to sign legal documents, deeds, or contracts.

Ultimately, if you can't E-file your return, you can mail it.

Your Federal tax return goes to a different location depending on the state that you live in.  See this list to determine the location for you.
