You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You have to sign onto your 2017 online account using the exact same User ID you used to create the online account.
Close all TurboTax windows on your web browser (including this one). Copy and paste the account recovery website link onto a new web browser window and run the tool.
Use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of all the User ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery
If none of the user ID's received will access your 2017 account, then use the option shown in blue on the account recovery website, "Try something else"
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF) or Download .tax file
Thank you for the response. Unfortunately I cannot download the .tax file for 2017. When I click the link to download the file. it opens another page and says "To download your prior-year TurboTax returns, just get started with your 2019 tax return in the TurboTax product that's right for you." I haven't done returns for 2018 or 2019. I have no reportable income, so no need to file for those years.

That sounds more like you have a cache situation with your web browser. If you are signing onto the TurboTax account with the correct User ID you used to create the 2017 account, you should not receive any type of message when trying to download either the PDF or the .tax file.
Close any TurboTax windows. Clear cache and cookies on your web browser. Close the browser and then re-open the browser. Sign back onto your TurboTax account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
If the problem persists try changing your web browser. Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are reliable web browsers.
Ok I tried that. It didn't help. However, under the option to amend (change) the 2017 return, it says:
How to amend your 2017 return
Download your .tax file
(You'll need to purchase TurboTax Deluxe online or higher editions in order to download your .tax file. Learn more)
At the time I used turbotax online free because I was eligible for it. I do have the returns I did in pdf format though. So I'll just print hard copies of those and mail them in. Apparently it's too late to e-file for that year, something I was unaware of before. Thanks for trying to help.
