While all the same forms are available in all versions of the TurboTax CD/Download program, different version have different levels of support and guidance. For instance, if you want to enter self-employment expenses on Schedule C, you can do so in any version by using the Forms view. However, if you want the guided interview, you will need to upgrade to Home & Business. To do so:
Upgrading is a one-way street. Once you've upgraded, you can't downgrade back to your original version.
- With your return open in TurboTax, select Upgrade TurboTax at the very bottom of your screen, toward the right (If you don't see the upgrade option here, you can also find it by selecting Help from the top menu)
- In the new window, select the version you'd like to upgrade to and select Upgrade Now
- Follow the onscreen instructions to purchase the upgrade
- When finished, continue working on your return. You don't have to go back to the beginning
