update to previous question regarding ammended federal and state returns status

My original federal and Missouri returns were accepted, but I had to amend both returns and now my Missouri return shows "Accepted" but my amended federal return still shows "rejected: return reviewed". Now, the "review again" button still doesn't do anything. The amended federal return shows no errors when I rerun it. I have double checked all federal entries. My spouse's returns were both originally rejected, so I made the appropriate entry changes but are still rejected. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You can try these things and then resubmit:

  • Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.
  • Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.
  • Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.
  • Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."
  • Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.

Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

Was your original return filed as a joint return and your amended return filed as a separate return? If so, your amended return will be processed but it will not change the face that you were both on the original efiled return. If you are trying to file her return as separate now, it won't be able to be efiled because of that original return. The only option will be to file her return by mail.

To see what is causing your return to be rejected and find out how to fix it:

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Select the Fix my return button
    • Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.

What does my rejected return code mean and how do I fix it?

There are also some returns that are not able to be filed due to a processing error that will be corrected on March 6, 2026. If this is your case, after this date, open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing.

As instructed, I waited until March 7th to refile my 1040X, for the software updates to be performed on March 6th. I reviewed my 1040X very carefully before resubmitting on the 7th and It says no errors were found, but unfortunately, it was rejected again. When I press the fix it button, nothing happens again. I'm at a loss. I guess I'll have to call the IRS tomorrow for help. Any ideas? Thanks!

Yay! Thank-you so much for the detailed instructions! I followed them exactly, crossed my fingers, and my federal return was accepted! Thanks again!

update to previous question regarding ammended federal and state returns status

Hello, both my 1040X and Missouri returns were accepted (the 1040X last night 3-9-26. Now, I'm trying to submit my spouse returns. Her returns had never been accepted, so I thought once mine were accepted, hers would be too. She is married filing separately as well. I followed the instructions that I was given before re-submitting them. Unfortunately, they have been rejected several times. Here is the rejection message I'm getting. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

This is exactly what happened. My original return was filed as a joint return and my amended return was filed as a separate return. I mailed my returns in. Thanks so much for your help!
