We have the just updated Deluxe TurboTax 2024 on our desktop computer and the program finds last year's file without difficulty. I hit "transfer" and it flashes a small sign for ONE second that states "reading return". It then disappears and NOTHING happens. It does NOT say "pending" nor "working on it" nor something intelligent. It just sits there dead on arrival. Truly a bug. We found then tried the pdf's after "browsing" to them. A sign pops up "unsuccessful" no reason given. So NEITHER the proprietary tax file nor the pdf's (which we can read just beautifully) work to transfer. Extremely disappointed we wasted so much time. Also the very first introduction to the program should SUGGEST transferring last years return unchanged data.

I have the Home&Business version on Windows 10 and transferred from 2023 fine. Are you trying the transfer the data file ending in .tax2023? Don't transfer the pdf file. Did you use the 2023 Desktop program?
Here's an idea. Do you still have 2023 installed? Try opening 2023 program and see if you can get your 2023 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. And see if that is the right one.
Then in the 2023 program do a File-Save AS and give it a easy name you can find or search for. And note where it saves it or select where to save it so you can find it again. The file will end in .tax2023. Then close the 2023 program. Then start a new 2024 return and transfer from the 2023 file.
While I note the suggestion from VolvoGirl, it does NOT help nor explain our problem. Again, please note: I CAN find the necessary file (including the PDF as backup) that SHOULD transfer. Clicking on the highlighted box (as you 100% expect) the software says "reading it" in the middle of the Turbo-Tax screen for several seconds then vanishes never to be seen again. We have let the computer run for an hour just to see if Turbo tax is "reading" last year's return quietly and at a snail's pace (and giving us NO CLUE that it is!). Nothing.
If Turbotax software engineers are aware of some hidden issue that MIGHT be active on a standard Windows 11 computer with Norton Security they need to tell me ASAP. The whole reason for staying with turbotax and not the competition was ease of transfer (we have done it several years previously!!) So.... your turn. Or a major bad review is pending.
