Unable to receive a W-2 from a former employer what do I do if not went out of business just getting the runaround don't know what to do .and I have moved.

Was told manager had my W-2s went to pick up my W-2s then was told at that time that it was mailed have not received it in the mail. don't know if it's been lost employer said too bad there's nothing they can do they did mail it what do I do

Do you have online access to your payroll account?

• For example: if your payroll processor was ADP, you can access your W-2 online.

If all efforts to get your W-2 have been exhausted, you can create a substitute W-2. You won't be able to E-file it. You'll have to paper file and mail in your tax return. 

1. Open your return and search for W-2. Select the Jump to link in the search results to get to the W-2 entry screen.
2. Fill out your W-2 as best you can using the information from your last pay stub.
3. Answer any questions until you get to the Let's check for uncommon situations screen.
4. Check the box next to Didn't get a W-2 and select Continue.
5. On the Let's check if you need a substitute W-2 screen, select Yes then Continue.
6. Answer the follow-up questions. Select Print to download and print your IRS Form 4852.
