Unable to import E*Trade tax forms of closed account using Turbo Tax Desktop

I tried importing tax forms of my closed E*Trade account using my Turbo Tax Premier Desktop after installing all updates, but continue to get the error below. Could it because my E*Trade accounts are closed? Also, appreciate your suggestion on the easiest and least manual way to go about if Turbo Tax Desktop doesn't support import of closed accounts. Thanks again!

Something’s not working

We didn’t find the right account types to connect at this provider.

We can connect to E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley but can’t find the right kind of accounts. Select an account at a different provider.

Seen some posts that there's a setting on your E*Trade account whether to share data with 3rd parties, check under your profile and "Security Settings" if that's enabled.  If that doesn't work, I've also seen posts in the past about not being able import closed accounts - it's hard to keep track of what's by design and what are flaws with all these changes to the import process each year, but that could be the issue.

If the 3rd party settings doesn't work I would just input 1099s manually instead of going in circles with support etc, this can be very straightforward unless you have a 1099-B with lots of adjustment entries.

For 1099-INT/DIV just input manually you don't need all the payer details, just payer name and any boxes with amounts.

For 1099-B you can input those as sales summaries, but if you have items with adjustments (wash sales, AMD) or non-covered sales ("cost basis not sent to the IRS") those are best entered "one by one" with the details, and then enter the rest of your 1099-B separately as a sales summary; be sure to check totals on Schedule D.

Splitting the 1099-B entry this way removes the need to mail the details to the IRS - you should get a message at the end of the 1099-B whether you need to mail the details or not, also in Forms mode at the bottom of the Capital Asset Sales Entry Worksheet for each 1099-B there is a flag showing whether mailing is required.

If you do end up having to mail the details with Form 8453 you can just send the parts of the 1099-B with these adjustment or non-covered items.
