Intent to earn money: Buying home commission rebate

When buying my home, my real estate agreed to give me part of his commissions as a rebate. HE provided a 1099-MISC with the amount as other income. Is this considered an intent to earn money?

Intent to earn money: Buying home commission rebate

Typically rebates are not reportable income, but since you were provided a 1099-MISC you are now required to include it on your return.

Intent to earn money: Buying home commission rebate

I'm in the same boat. I received a 1099 from my realtor because he gave me a chunk of the commission he earned from my purchasing a home. I'm just not sure if that counts as "intent to earn money" or not.
