Turned my home into a rental in 2022, but it didn't get rented in 2022 and have expenses.

I bought another house and moved in with my GF in 2022. I turned my old house into a rental, and spent 2 months renovating it before listing it for rent in 2022. It never got rented in 2022, so how to I add the property to deduct the expenses for the renovations?

Right, but you placed the house into service as a rental in September and, I presume, there was no personal use after that date. What happened prior to the house being placed into service as a rental (i.e., the personal use) is irrelevant for the purposes of Schedule E at this point.

You want to show that this is your first year renting the property, that the property was available for rental use since it was placed into service, and there were no actual days of fair market rental nor personal use days after it was made available for rent.

ah ok, I see where my confusion is. I was thinking like 9 months of the year was personal. I get it now, so it would be 0 days used for personal service once I moved out and it was a rental property at that point going forward.
