The tax returns completed and filed do Not have to be only your tax returns. You can complete and file as many tax return for others as needed. You only have to create those tax returns on your computers where you have installed the TurboTax software.
It is the same as last year. You can install on 5 computers you own. You can do unlimited returns and efile 5. You don’t have to install on another computer to do another tax return.
The returns do not have to be all YOUR returns (one person would only file one return) ---- they can be returns for family members, etc. But you can only download to computers that YOU own. So---no giving out the license code to other people. The returns need to be prepared on YOUR computers. Among all of those computers your federal e-file limit is five. If you prepare more than five federal returns the other ones have to be filed by mail.
Thanks all, good to know.
The contradictory wording is:
"Product download, installation and activation requires an Intuit Account and internet connection. Product limited to one account per license code."
"Install and activate on up to five computers owned by you (at home or at work) and only to prepare, print and/or e-file your own federal and state taxes."
I don't really remember how we did it last year. I guess every other person has to activate using my account, essentially pretending to be me.
@tnone2024 Once you have downloaded and installed the TurboTax software with the license code, there is no requirement for each tax return being created on that particular computer have access to your TurboTax account again.
Part of the wording that you quoted does not accurately describe TurboTax's policy.
"only to prepare, print and/or e-file your own federal and state taxes."
You can use the software to prepare tax returns for anyone, not just "your own," as long as you are not being paid to prepare someone else's tax returns.
I suppose it all comes down to the terms you must agree to when you first activate the product.
Interpreting "your own" to mean "your own household" is good enough for me.
