TurboTax won't let me import CSV file from crypto tax software

I have a gain/loss report (CSV file) from my crypto tax tracking software. Running into what seems like a bug in the online version of TurboTax.

Here is what I've tried:

- Navigate to "Wages & Income"

- Select "Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B, 1099-DA)"

- Click "Add investments"

- Click "Enter a different way"

- Click "Import" (if I select Upload instead, it only gives me the option to import a pdf, jpg, jpeg, or png file)

- Click "Continue"

- Search for "Crypto"

- Select "Crypto CSV Upload"

Once I do that, the screen says "Drop docs here or browse. Make sure it ends in .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, .png"

No option to import a CSV. Any suggestions?

Currently, TurboTax supports the manual entry of IRS Form 1099-DA. We are in the process of enhancing our CSV import and upload features to make this process more seamless.

  • Timeline: We expect the new CSV import functionality to be available soon. Please note that this is an estimated target as we finalize the experience.
  • Supported Documents: Once live, the import/upload feature will support both 1099-DA and DigitalAssetGainLoss files.

If you are ready to file now, you can still enter your information manually. Otherwise, thank you for your patience while we get these automated tools ready for you!

@RobertB4444 Hi, how do you import a file (pdf or other formats) on the desktop version? will the update for uploading CSV file be available soon on desktop too? The date of acquisition for my stablecoin is across multiple dates. Is there a way to indicate "various" in Box 1d date acquired in the upload? Thanks!

Another user suggested this: You can skip the 1st half video to prepare the CSV file because you can download the CSV file from Merrill too. This YouTube video showed how convert 1099-B PDF file to TXF file for tax preparation software by first converting PDF to CSV; then converting CSV to TXF with online tool from website, 1099bimporter.com. This process included the wash sale too.
