Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

Turbotax won't let me file for free because I have a credit (so it isn't a "simple return") but the credit is less than the cost of Deluxe. Can I opt out of the credit?

I would rather forego the credit, and not have to upgrade to Deluxe. But I'm not seeing this option anywhere.

Is it the retirement saver credit?     Tell the software in My Info that you are a student and it will disqualify you for the credit.

Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site

No, you cannot opt out of the credit BUT you can delete the entry that is causing you to upgrade.  Normally this would be for the retirement plan entry made from the codes on your W-2.  Go back to your W-2 and delete the retirement entry in box 12 and you will not have the credit or the need to upgrade.
