Please reply with which state is the problem. Most state information flows from the federal. You may want to contact a specialist that can work through that section of the return with you

I am filing in Maryland. I have not found any way to manually change my dependency status on my state return.

Yes the federal return status should flow to the state return. Check again what you have in your federal return information. However, you cannot file as a dependent of another person if you are filing a joint return except if you are only filing to get back federal refund of your taxes.
