TurboTax prepared my 2017 taxes, but didn't file them because I never paid them. If I pay them now can/will they file them for me now along with my 2018?

Your completed but unfiled 2017 return may still be in your account, or it may have been deleted.  (They used to delete unfiled returns after October 15).

If you pay to file your 2018 return, that will unlock any documents in your online account from past years, assuming you used the same online account.  If you are lucky, you can print your return from last year and mail it to the IRS (turbotax can't e-file last years' return.)

However, since this would get you a return for free, I suspect you can't do that.  You might be able to download the 2017 tax data file, but you would then need to buy Turbotax for 2017 to install on your own computer to open the data file, check it for errors, and then print it.  (See the bottom of the page for "products for prior years".

Or, you will need to buy last year's program and build your 2017 return from scratch.

If you can't print it out to mail here's how to finish on your computer

Just to provide some clarity for others reading this thread.

"TurboTax prepared my 2017 taxes, but didn't file them "

TurboTax does not prepare a tax return of any type, for any one, for any reason. There are no exceptions. Additionally, TurboTax does not file a tax return, for any one, for any reason. Again, there are no exceptions.

TurboTax only provides the program so that users can prepare and file their own tax return. That's basically it, with nothing more.

It's up to the user to enter necessary data and complete their own return using the program. If the user elects to mail the return to the IRS, then it's up to that user to print, sign and mail it themselves. If the user elects to e-file the return, then it's up to the user to click the big orange TRANSMIT RETURNS NOW button to send the return electronically to the IRS. When e-filing, it's the user's responsibility to check back to see if the e-filed return has been accepted, or rejected by the IRS.

When using the online version of the TurboTax program, the user can not print and mail or e-file until they pay their TurboTax fees for using the program to prepare their return.
