If you are using the desktop product, try it again tomorrow as there will be an update for Form 5695 this evening.
If you are using the TurboTax desktop editions, there was a software update today, 01/29. This updated the Form 5695 and resolved the QMID code issue.
Update your software to the latest release, click on Online at the top of the desktop program screen then click on Check for Updates
The update that TurboTax Desktop received allows the federal returns with a QMID of "I7Q6" to pass the return filing validation that is in place; however, it will subsequently get rejected from the IRS with the following message:
F5695-096 - If Form 5695, [ 'CostAmt' in 'MostExpnsElecGasHtPumpGrp' from 'HtPumpWtrHeaterBmssStoveBlrGrp' from 'EgyEffcntHmImprvCrGrp' ] has a non-zero value, then [ 'QMID' in 'MostExpnsElecGasHtPumpGrp' from 'HtPumpWtrHeaterBmssStoveBlrGrp' from 'EgyEffcntHmImprvCrGrp' ] must be present unless a binary attachment or [GeneralDependencySmall] with description beginning with "Substantiate QMID" is present in the return.
It is very obvious that this rejection is due to a formatting issue with the QMID data field. In addition, other TurboTax customers have said that they are actually able to successfully e-file their TurboTax federal returns with the IRS without rejection by using a QMID of "L7Q6". Yet, others have been able to successfully file their federal tax return with FreeTaxUSA using the "I7Q6" QMID.
This appears to be a known issue and in this day an time of AI, agents coding, interoperable systems and electronic communication perhaps the customer expectations is that it shouldn't take weeks to give customers information on what appears to be a know issue.
I decided to check on this issue where my TurboTax prepared and e-filed federal tax return was rejected by the IRS earlier this week due to the "I7Q6" QMID. I noticed the there was a software update available for my 2025 Turbo Tax Mac Desktop edition. I downloaded and installed this update. It indicated it would be available February 8 but it was available to download and install earlier this morning (after midnight EST). I then proceeded to check my "E-File Status" where the IRS rejection was captured. After another review I was able to submit my federal and state TurboTax prepared returns without any additional changes which is the same as before earlier this week. However, this time, I received email notifications that my federal and state returns had both been accepted by the IRS and state respectively.
In summary, this "I7Q6" QMID issue now appears to be resolved with this latest TurboTax software update. Intuit has quickly identified and responded to this issue with this update so kudos to them for a prompt and effective response.
