Due to January 2025 wildfires, the IRS granted Los Angeles County residents an extension until October 15, 2025 to file 2024 tax returns and to make all tax payments due before October, including 2025 quarterly estimates that would have been due in April, June and September 2025. However, TurboTax does NOT properly recognize this IRS extension of the payment deadlines. When I enter the October dates that I actually paid those quarterly estimated payments as allowed by the IRS extension, TurboTax considers these payments to be late and automatically calculates a penalty for late payment. But of course, the payments are not in fact late, they were made by the deadline, and no penalty should be owed. I can make the penalty disappear if I change the payment dates to April, June and September so that TurboTax recognizes the payments as having been made by the deadline, but that's not a good "fix" because that's not when I made the payments. Any suggestions?
