Turbotax Deluxe Desktop for OS X cannot activate: " You’re not connected to the Internet." (but I am)

Not running a firewall, no AV software. Turbotax 2024 launches and runs just fine as well as every other connected app. Phone support clueless.

What Mac OS do you have?   For 2025 You will need Mac OS Sonoma 14 or later

Try the following troubleshooting steps for issues with activating TurboTax on a Mac:
 

  1. Check Security Software: Temporarily disable firewalls, antivirus, or malware protection, which often block activation, and close any active VPNs.
  2. Switch Internet Sources: If using Wi-Fi, try switching to a wired (Ethernet) connection, or try a mobile hotspot to rule out router issues.
  3. Reboot & Restart: Shut down your Mac and restart your router/modem to refresh the network connection.

Firewall disabled. Not running AV or malware protection. VPN off.

 

 Connected via Ethernet. Restarted everything.


 Nothing. No other application, including prior versions of TurboTax, are fine. Did a complete delete and reinstall.  

 

Nothing in the linked article applies to my situation.

@Scott_A_R try creating a new user account and do the installation/activation there.  If that works it's not an ideal way to run it but may help eliminate some basic issues with your HW and point to something in the user account (what that is I don't know).

 

You can also try rebooting in safe mode and see if you can activate it that way, but I have not tried this, not sure what happens when you reboot again in normal mode.

 

Sorry bit vague but these two things are usually recommended on Apple forum when having app issues.

If you have already tried all of the troubleshooting steps posted in this thread, and still have not been able to activate your TurboTax for Mac download, I recommend that you contact TurboTax customer support for further assistance.

 

Among the possible options they may be able to assist with is to try a new license code, or try a Windows version.

So your suggestion is for me to buy a Windows computer so that I can run a single application?

No; I suggested that you contact TurboTax Support and that one of the options they might offer is to switch to the Windows version of desktop (in case you might also have a Windows device). They might also offer a different license code, or may be aware of other issues that haven't come to our attention in the Community.

 

I have both a Mac and a Windows computer. I do prefer to use the Mac, so I understand.
