TurboTax Free Edition DIY is pulling the wrong line item for the Property Tax Credit. WHO can fix this so I can actually efile?

You are probably better off having someone walk through the return with you to look at your entries so I recommend getting live expert help.
Here is a link to finding a TurboTax expert.
However, that requires upgrading your product which may be an expense you don't want. In that case you can call an expert and ask questions over the phone.
Here is a link to the TurboTax Phone Number.
None of what you suggested applies. I've contacted, tried, they are focused on pay first, other problems they are just sure you are doing, etc.
First, to do MO taxes, you have to DO the tax before you plop in a number for income. They told me in the 5th question I couldn't take the Property Tax Credit. Wrong. The programmer needs to follow the tax laws for MO. They need to use line item 6 on MO-1040 to enter on Line 1 of the PTS. TURBO DID NOT. They used Line 1, which they then said I was over the 30,000. They said, not asked, and they have no option to rebuttal, just click continue, and all BEFORE EVEN DOING MY STATE TAXES. After working through the rest of the program, expecting them to go back on this, as I am not over the 30,000., I am now at the end several days work and they did not go back on it. SO..... I now can't file my taxes. Further, They were able to do this correctly over the past years and suddenly cannot. Others in my family have used the program when it worked as well. I have been doing taxes for years. They need to FIX their Free Edition DIY and quickly. Or I and there are others in this dilemma, (I have already talked with the DOR), have to move to H R Block, who can do it correctly. THE PROBLEM IS WHO and HOW does it get fixed correctly and quickly? I would think they would want to gain customers, not lose them.

For anyone interested - For the Missouri Property Tax Credit the message you get as soon as your federal tax transfers over to Missouri, is that you will not have access to the MO Property Tax Credit if your TOTAL household INCOME exceeds 30,000 - and that Turbo Tax will not complete the form (which is the MO-PTS).
However, it is NOT pulled from the TOTAL on Line 1 of the MO-1040, it is pulled from Line 6 of the MO-1040 - ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME, as the MO-PTS Line 1 tells you. Which means you MUST do all the state tax first to deduct all the subtractions to get the adjusted gross income. Turbo can't possibly tell you at the beginning of your state tax return that you're over 30,000. before allowing you to do the subtractions, when many people have subtractions, then are eligible for the credit. Also Turbo will not allow you rebuttal the error in any way. You think they will come back on the subject after you do the whole state tax, but no. It takes a long, long time to do taxes and wham, you find out at the end that you have to go to another online tax program and start all over. For anyone in this situation, know that there are other online tax programs where this isn't a problem. Taxes shouldn't take days and over a week to do. Hopefully this helps someone in this situation save a lot of time and frustration.
If you would like to revisit the Missouri Property Tax Credit after you've completed the rest of your state return, including your subtractions, then please take these steps:
You may qualify for the property tax credit if you are:
Net household income is not more than $27,200 if you rented or did not own and occupy the residence all year. Net household income of not more than $30,000 if you owned and occupied the property all year.
We appreciate your feedback on your experience. Thank you for posting and please reply back if the steps above do not work for you.
I have tried your suggestion from last evening some 15-20 times, editing state and all of it. However, in case someone fixed it, I tried it again. And the same thing.
The message of:
Property Tax Credit
This credit is subject to income limitations. TurboTax will not complete the form if your income exceeds the limit.
You will not have access to the property tax credit if your total household income exceeds $30,000. We show your total household income is currently xxxx. (I did not show my income).
My income is well below 30,000. if they pull it correctly from MO-1040 Adjusted Gross Income, Line 6, as the MO-PTS directs you. From here, please follow what I said in my last post.
Note there is not going to be a way to EDIT it, when their script for the program is going to pull the tax in this way. Further you can't have this line at the BEGINNING of state taxes, you could not possibly know what the persons figures are.
They need to fix the program or rewrite the script to pull it in correctly.
As for me qualifying, I am well qualified and have claimed the tax credit before, as well as helping another person with theirs, and above all, using Turbo Tax. Before this tax season, Turbo Tax has it right, now they don't. It's not Total Household Income, It's Adjusted Gross Income, Line 6 on MO-1040.
Yes, you are correct. The MO-PTS for 2021 starts with your Total Missouri adjusted gross income, Line 6. Then, on the MO-PTS lines, 2-7 additional items are added to come up with your Total Household Income on line 8.
All of these figures pull from the information that is entered under the Federal section in TurboTax, which is why you see this question very early in the state interview.
In all my tests these figures are being accurately calculated, so I will need some more information to help resolve the experience that you have described. It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2021" file to test further.
Please, go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.
I will then be able to see the same experience you are having. If we're able to determine the cause, we'll reply here and provide you with a resolution.
Thanks again for taking the time to provide us with your detailed feedback.
First, there is nothing to see. And I don't need to be charged for a program not functioning properly.
My Federal is correct.
For State, they pulled what would be line 1 of the PTS not line 6, or flat declared it from Federal and called it Total Household income.
So nothing matters about doing lines 2-7 of the MO-PTS at this point, because I WAS NOT PERMITTED TO EVEN DO THE MO-PTS.
They are pulling the wrong line number to even start State Tax, again either what would be line 1 on the PTS or straight from Federal. THEREFORE I AM NOT PERMITTED TO DO MY SUBTRACTIONS ON STATE TO ARRIVE AT THE MO-ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME THAT THEY NEED FOR THE PTS.
First, you should not see this question early on state because they cannot know the amount until you actually do the state. In previous years, they asked the question 37 questions into the state and at the end when it was finished. This year they asked it immediately after they asked my address on personal information which was the line before you even start the actual state tax.
Second, it was not a question, which is very annoying. They simply declared the wrong amount and that I would not have access to do it. So much for the advertised version of DIY - you put in the figures, as well as the Maximum Refund Guarantee.
In short, many people can end Federal over 30,000. and go well under 30,000. for state, when allowed by the tax program to input their subtractions and COMPLETE the state tax first. Even when I continued on completing it, they did NOT allow me to do it, which only wasted a lot more time. They need to fix the script to function properly.
I want to thank you again for your suggestions for improvement and I will submit your feedback. Please also consider submitting your token number by following my previous instructions so that we can further assist you.
Good luck with that. I've explained over and over what needs to happen, however it doesn't seem to be in the picture for TurboTax. One cannot simply pull in a State program and immediately declare you cannot take a credit and put in any number to declare it with. You MUST do the State tax first.
Also, every road I went down and it was many before you first responded, was a dead end. The "can we contact you (yes)", the feedback I did on their webpage, the calls I made, all with no response, other than how I'll have to pay for this and that. I appreciate that I one day heard from you, but they do need to improve on customer service and reaching a human voice, in which case maybe this could have been resolved before the days of back and forth emailing, etc.
I've read other blogs regarding the pulling in of the wrong line on other aspects of the TurboTax.
As a long time customer of TurboTax, I found it now taking too long to get anywhere.
I completed my taxes a while back, with a different online provider and had absolutely no problem.
Thanks for responding though. TurboTax may want to consider a faster, more efficient way to reach customer service and a human voice without the pay this and that before you even get to talk to anyone. Especially when it's a problem with the TurboTax program.
I went into the Turbo Tax free online version and they still charged me 59.00 dollars! I would like that refunded as it is false advertising. My was a basic return.
