Turbo tax failed to let my gambling losses get deducted in Massachusetts. I entered the detail from my Form W-2G in my income but the system apparently would not carry that to Schedule X in MA. To efile in MA, it forced me to remove the $500 of losses which pertained to the gambling winnings and cost me $25.

In MA, gambling losses can only be deducted to the extent that they are from MA-source lotteries:
A taxpayer may claim a deduction for qualifying sports wagering and gambling losses incurred in the calendar year from the above Massachusetts sources only if the taxpayer had sports wagering or gambling winnings in the same calendar year from any such Massachusetts source.
^ per 2025 MA Form 1 personal income tax return instructions.
While gambling losses are limited, all gambling winnings from any source are taxable and includable in income for state purposes.
I know the tax law here.
The problem is a bug. The losses were from the MA lottery, not elsewhere. The numbers were on the Form Schedule X and Schedule Y but TT still would do nothing to file. Just continuously looped saying we need more information, then submitting again, and a repeat. Several times. It should have asked a question if the losses were associated from the same state and/or from the same gambling platform and accept the losses and go on with e-file. $25 is not a big deal to me, but the issue should be addressed by Intuit. It's a problem. Data is there but TT apparently does not see it, or when it took in the W-2G asked a couple questions that were clear to place losses so TT could connect the inputs.
If you are stuck in a loop, the problem may be something else.
