Did not work for me either. :(
I had to disable my real-time virus protection in Windows 11 to activate TTax. I enabled again after activation and registration. All seems to work now. What a Joke. Disable virus protection to use financial SW? Really?
I agree it is totally outrageous that you are forced to put your computer and personal financial information security at risk to activate TT. But again IMO with MS and TT this is likely to be intentional as they apparently want to mine everyone's personal information as much as possible for their financial benefit and sales of information to third parties. TT is IMO trying to also push customers to online only versions of their sw for similar reasons.
Windows 10 IMO is bad enough, but IMO Windows 11 is so horrible it is beyond belief with all its invasion of privacy, appropriating users information and more. Unfortunately I have so far spent 50+ hours on my husbands new computer (had no choice but to replace old computer originally running XP and upgraded to Windows 7 Pro which tells you how old it was) trying to install third party sw and block all or at least most of MS invasion of privacy. Unlike TT and MS, those third party sw vendors have been extremely helpful getting the activation and other issues promptly resolved, even in 2 cases having to send us special links so they can manually activate (because of Windows 11 blocking etc--had nothing to do with our antivirus/antispyware/antiransom ware or vpn, all on Windows 11). IMO don't upgrade or change to Windows 11 unless you absolutely have to--unfortunately we had no choice with having to get a new computer.
Glad you got TT working at least.
So I tried something different today. I uninstalled TT 2024 and I deleted the TT Folder from the Programs Files folder. I then logged into the Intuit Website. I disabled my Anti Virus and Firewall. I installed TT 2024 and it went right to the Activation page of the install and it activated just fine. I then turned back on my Anti Virus and Firewall. The entire thing took less than 2 minutes. I don't know if what I did was a fix or if Intuit fixed something at their end and it was all just a coincidence because I did not try to activate TT again before I did this. I tried about 5 times yesterday using different methods and they all failed.
There was a known issue on 1-10-2025 that has now been resolved. If you had trouble yesterday, try again today and see if you are okay.
Congratulations. Very glad and relieved to hear that you were finally able to activate TT after all the hassle. The glitches on TT side when trying to activate may have corrupted your TT download, so it was wise IMO to first again uninstall/reinstall before trying to activate again although when I did that several days ago it did not help but I finally found my solution on my own as described elsewhere.
From another's recent post, it looks like TT may have finally done something to fix the problem they knew about way back in late Nov and did nothing to address or inform customers having problems. Totally IMO incompetent and ridiculous to not only release sw that won't activate but also then IMO horrendous to conceal the problem is on TT side and not letting customers having problems know but instead when contacted sending them into meaningless endless loop of unsuccessful possible "solutions".
I have to wonder since TT ignored this issue when reported weeks ago by customers if Amazon recently contacted TT about this issue. (Of course it is not just Amazon TT purchases, web search shows same problem experienced by other authorized sellers customers including those purchasing from Costco.) The Amazon customer service agent was quite concerned and after refunding my purchase immediately escalated a couple of levels up and the high level supervisor assured me Amazon would be contacting TT about the issue as they could see it affected a number of customers (and purchasers of TT from other vendors).
Hopefully this resolves the TT problems for the season but unfortunately based on last year's fiasco and one a few years ago, I suspect there to be major problems with at least one commonly used form...
Thanks for letting people know about the possible fix. Hopefully it resolves the issue TT has known about for weeks (not just one day) from customer reports and apparently has only recently gotten around to doing something about it. IMO releasing sw that cannot even be activated and waiting for weeks to do anything about it treats customers very badly.
If activation still does not work for some having problems, you might first consider uninstalling and reinstalling before trying to activate again since the previous glitches on the TT side when trying to activate may have corrupted the TT files.
Hope this resolves the activation problems for everyone! So we can then progress to the actual not so fun task of doing our taxes...LOL.
I have been trying to install and use TT24 for about 4 hours now (after several hours on previous days). I have followed all of the advice including disabling firewalls and have uninstalled/reinstalled several times. I still cannot get past the page after "Ready to start your taxes" as is continues to return to the page asking for my password. I've used TT for years without this kind of problem.
Here is an FAQ: Why am I seeing the sign-in screen after attempting to sign in for activation of 2024 TurboTax Deskt...
Thanks but unfortunately TT has known about this issue since MID NOVEMBER when first reported and has so far done NOTHING to resolve. Tax season is open and people cannot even activate their sw---not just if purchased from Amazon apparently but also I found exactly the same problems posted on web when people purchased elsewhere such as Costco.
For those of you who are concerned about privacy, in case you missed the notices of TT being hacked and having a major data breach (actually it appears more than once over the past few years) just for example see https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/privacy/data-breach/intuit-class-action-claims-co-fa.... There quite a few notices on the web concerning these TT data breaches and TT delays in notifying customers. One very good reason IMO why if you are concerned about privacy and security of your personal information NOT to use TT online version and NOT to save to TT online despite TT doing IMO everything possible to force people to use TT online version. Everyone is different wrt how they view such matters, but this is one reason why I will only use a desktop version (which unfortunately TT appears to be making extremely difficult) and only save to my own computer--with appropriate back up of course to my own storage devices.
And just a heads up...last year for a very popular and commonly used form I needed, TT first said form was not available from IRS yet which when I checked with the IRS found to be untrue, and then when confronted TT said they were working on it and estimated it would be resolved in a week...then kept putting people off week by week for over 2 months. These are only two examples I have personally experienced over the past few years with TT and there were other significant problems with inaccurate forms etc. Used to be great sw but now?!
If this sort of nonsense keeps up, guess it will be back to the old fashioned pencil and paper way of doing returns for me even though I have complex returns since the reviews of competitor sw also show multiple problems and dissatisfaction.
I am glad I finally found a fix posted elsewhere for my situation but sorry for those of you who are still having problems. With these difficulties every time I am opening TT now I almost cringe wondering if it is going to stop working.
I received an email stating that the sign-on do-loop issue has been resolved. I've just spent another 3 hours trying to reinstall multiple times, including removing and re-installing TT, making intuit a trusted site, running as administrator, checking Windows Installer, and all the other advice that I have been reading.
It still does not work - I'm getting the exact same loop bringing me back to sign-on. Ready to switch software or do taxes by hand at this point.
So sorry you are having such horrific problems courtesy of TT.
I am not a computer or cyber geek, just a very long time user. But after this year I probably won't use TT anymore as in the time I spent trying to activate I could have done my taxes by hand even though I have a complex return, plus over the past few years there have been numerous problems with TT incorrect forms and glitches not being fixed until just before tax day which forced manual overrides and/or amended returns. I now cringe every time I have to open TT wondering if there is going to be a problem using or updating (just checked my own install again and it seems to still work thankfully but who knows next time). And I looked into other tax sw but found numerous problems reported for those as well.
The problem many of us on this thread were/are experiencing was trying to activate the TT sw after downloading. TT just put us in an endless login loop when trying to activate with the activation code for desktop sw. From your previous message and your possibly getting a different message at an apparent different point in the process, I am not sure of your situation so sorry to ask these questions to clarify:
It sounds like your problem may be somewhat different? Are you using a desktop version of TT or the online version? Were you able to successfully download the sw and activate and now are not able to log in and being put in an endless login loop trying to open TT sw that has already been successfully (LOL) installed and activated? What version of windows are you using, what firewall and antivirus are you using (hopefully something different than what MS windows provides).
Not sure if you have read my previous posts re the endless activation loop, but I tried all of what you did many times wrt reinstalling, running as admin (which I did from beginning), clearing browsers, using different (4!) browsers, adding as trusted site, deactivating firewall and antivirus (not recommended and if you do then before make sure to create restore point and running disinfection sw afterwards). I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version with third party antivirus/spamware/ransomware/firewall plus third party vpn. So if you are on Windows 11 and/or using MS Defender etc what worked for me might not work for you. But if you haven't tried my posted solution, hopefully it might work for you as well but there are no guarantees. It did not work for someone else.
I disabled real-time virus protection and that still didn't work. I've tried everything. Any other ideas???
Please call TurboTax Customer service. Here is a link: Turbo Tax Customer Service
Thank you. Unfortunately...
I tried that and I was on the phone with a nice gentleman from customer service for well over an hour. We tried a lot of the same things that have been described in this thread and a few other things. He talk to someone else to get more guidance and ultimately came up with "I don't know. You are going to have to ask for a refund." So I have started the process of getting my refund through Amazon because that is who I purchased it through. I've already started the tax filing process using a competitor. I've used TurboTax for years. I didn't want to leave, but it has been 2 years in a row of software issues.
