I just purchased Premier 2020 from Amazon and when I install the software, I get an XML error before it even lets me enter my activation code of “This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it…” I called TurboTax Support and they sent a subsequent email saying they fixed it, but gave me no way to download the fixed file. I bought it on Amazon, and they have not fixed the download. Does anyone know how I can I get a link to download the fixed file? I need the 2020 Premier with 5 federal filings + One state.
Thanks!
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you bought it from amazon then you need to download it from amazon ... they need to correct the download file which could take a few days. OR talk to TT support again to see if they will push you a download.
Be aware that the program is currently only a beta version and much of the program will not be fully operational until sometime in January with many of the state programs will not be fully operational until sometime in February so don't be in a hurry and don't trust the results until later.

You "may" be able to download the latest installation file from the TurboTax website. I can't guarantee it will work, but it can't hurt to try. When you follow the steps in the FAQ below, it will have you enter the license code, and then hopefully place a download in your account.
The instructions would be the same as for someone who bought a CD at Amazon or a retail store, but doesn't have a CD drive.
If you have an Intuit account, then when you go thru the steps in the FAQ below, use your existing account. If you don't have one, it will have you create one as part of the process.
If you try it, please report back on your results.
Mesquitebean,
Thanks for your suggestion, it sounded like what I needed, however it does not recognize my Activation Code, so it won’t let me download anything. I hope Amazon gets it fixed on their downloads, but I am not sure how to know when the download button gets the fixed version.
I know I am starting very early for Tax Season, but I was hoping to at least use it now to get a ball park idea of what I may owe so I can plan.
Thanks a bunch!
Tax planning for 2020 should be done with the fully operational 2019 program ...
This is my mini version of a tutorial that should be in the downloaded program:
Always remember to shut off the auto update function once you have filed your returns and do not do any updates unless you have safeguarded the PDF & .taxfiles to a removable storage unit for safekeeping.
Forms Mode lets you view and make changes to your tax forms "behind the scenes."
If you're adventurous, you can even prepare your return in Forms Mode, but we don't recommend it. You may miss obscure credits and deductions you qualify for, and you may forget to report things that will come back and haunt you later.
Forms Mode is exclusively available in the TurboTax CD/Download software. It is not available in TurboTax Online.
If you want to play around with different figures and tax scenarios without affecting your original return you can ….
It's always a good idea to make a backup copy of your tax data file, in case your original gets lost or corrupted. Here's how:
If you make changes to your original tax return file, repeat these steps to ensure your original and backup copies are in-synch.
AND save it as a PDF so you have access to a copy even if you don’t have the program still installed and operational :
AND protect the files :
Critter-3,
Thanks for your ideas. I may have to wait on Amazon, but I am not sure how to know when the download button gets the fixed version. I hope I don’t have to keep trying the download and installing to see when it works? It would be nice to be notified by Amazon.
I did leave a question in the listing (I read it takes a few days before it is posted). I see in the questions for other TurboTax versions (2019, etc.) where Intuit provides the answer. I hope they do for my question also. It is interesting that so far there is only one review (not mine) of someone who had my same problem and couldn’t get an answer so they switched to H&R Block’s software
As for it being a Beta version, I know I am starting very early for Tax Season, I was hoping to at least use it now to get a ball park idea of what I may owe so I can plan.
Thanks a bunch!
It is on the 2019 tax year but it will soon change ...
