This year I paid more than twice as much as last year. And I'm getting less back. Why?

Last year I made less money. About $15,000. This year's was $34,000. I paid more than double into my taxes. But I'm getting less back.

Without knowing all the details of your return, I would suggest that if you were single, check for the Earned Income Credit (which has a max around $15,000 for single with no dependents). 

Another possibility (?) Recovery Rebate Credit for stimulus.

Usually more income = more tax = less refund.  Your withholding didn't increase enough to cover the tax due.  Or some credits you got are reduced because you made more income.
