I don't ever remember having to fill in information for form 6251. Why do I have to fill it out? Why doesn't the information transfer?

This is for Alternative Minimum Taxes. If it applied to you last year, it should have transferred. Perhaps your situation has changed. The tax laws regarding Alternative Minimum Taxes have changed this year. Good news: The number of taxpayers subject to the AMT is expected to drop dramatically in tax years 2018 through 2025, due to higher exemptions and phase-out thresholds.
