There are 2 dollar amounts showing up for alimony payments, (2016 amount and 2017 amount) but when I go to edit, I can only put in my 2017 amount)..

Yes, the only amount that matters is the 2017 amount.  The 2016 was transferred from the prior year or entered at some point but it's just there for your information, it doesn't get used in your tax return for 2017.
