The Step By Step is not working correctly especially the add property taxes section

It sounds like you're having trouble with the "Step by Step" feature in TurboTax, especially with adding property taxes. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:

Clear Cache and Cookies (for TurboTax Online)

Steps:

  1. Open your browser’s settings.
  2. Go to the section that handles browsing history or privacy settings
  3. Look for an option to "Clear Cache" and "Clear Cookies" (this may vary depending on your browser).
  4. Once cleared, try logging back into TurboTax and navigate to the property tax section

Refresh or Restart TurboTax

Steps:

  1. Online Version: If you’re using TurboTax online, click the refresh icon in your browser or press Ctrl + R (Windows) or Cmd + R (Mac).
  2. Desktop Version: Close the program and reopen it. Make sure you’re logged in correctly, and try to access the "Add Property Taxes" section again.

Manually Add Property Taxes

Steps:

  1. Navigate to the "Deductions & Credits" section.
  2. Locate the "Property Taxes" section.
  3. Enter your property tax information manually.
  4. Follow the prompts to ensure everything is filled out correctly.

I think I figured it out, at least how to get it to work properly in the interview...at least it did for me.

(Discovered by accident, BUT the software fix to prevent the problem in the first place, is still needed though).

__________________________
If you used that Property Tax entry field last year, and if you used a Supporting Details (SD ) sheet for putting it in last year, then the SD sheet transferred (empty) into this year's forms...AND...the SD sheet is somehow blocking the "interview" for the Property Taxes entry, to transition to the proper entry page.

_______________

My fix:

1) Switch to Forms Mode.

2) Open the Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet

3) There should be a zero on line 2a of that worksheet....double-click on it.

4) Delete the worksheet by hitting the big red X

5) Either enter you Property taxes on that line....or...return to the interview and enter your property taxes using the interview ..as you normally would..shoud be OK now.

_____________________

I found that if I re-introduced a new SD sheet for that line...the interview still proceeded as it normally should. So deleting the transferred-in SD sheet from 2023 was the main fix. and starting a new SD sheet doesn't re-introduce the problem.
