The State and local tax refund box.

Using Turbotax Deluxe. Regarding the State and Local tax refund box: I filled out all responses. The 2025 column still showed "Available Now" instead of the amount entered in the box. This is unlike the behavior of the prior year's version. A bug.

The State and local tax refund box.

If you are still having an issue editing the state tax worksheet, try deleting the state and starting over. It shouldn't take long to get all the information back for the state because most of the data feeds from the federal screen.

This usually resolves the state issue. If it doesn't work, let us know in the comments.

The State and local tax refund box.

You may have misunderstood. It had nothing to do with the State return for 2025, because I had not yet begun the state return. A little more detail may help:

  1. First, the problem is on a Step-by-Step screen.
  2. Go to the FEDERAL TAXES tab, Wages & Income option, Your 2025 Income Summary.
  3. Below, that, there is a line for 1099-MISC and Other Common Income, Tax refunds, 1099-G, 1099-Misc, 1099-NEC, 1099-K.
  4. Below that, is another line for State and Local Tax Refunds on form 1099-G.
  5. There are 2 columns on that line, one for 2024 data and one for 2025.
  6. After the Turbotax 2025, desktop, was installed, before any data had been entered, the 2024 column showed a refund amount, forwarded from my 2024 return.
  7. The 2025 column showed “Available now”.
  8. I clicked on the “Update” button, and went to the screen for Summary of state and local tax refunds.
  9. The screen showed a total of $869 for 2024, State of Maryland. I even deleted the amount and re-entered it.
  10. The amount was not carried back to the 2025 column on the line for State and Local Tax Refunds on form 1099-G and “Available now” was still there in the column for 2025.
  11. I even deleted the refund data on the, Summary of state and local tax refunds screen, exited the screen, came back and re-entered it with the same results.
  12. It appears to be a bug.

The State and local tax refund box.

If the 2024 column shows the amount of your 2024 state tax refund the 2025 box should show the same for 2025. It's not clear from your question if the $869 2024 refund was the refund from your 2024 tax return, or the amount you received in 2024 from your 2023 state tax refund. In either case, however, the worksheet you mention would be a summary schedule provided for your information as opposed to something that would impact the accuracy of your tax return.

I suggest you complete your state return and see if the worksheet then shows a number that is informative. Otherwise, it is early in the tax season and many updates are still being made, so the issue will likely resolve itself in the near future.

The State and local tax refund box.

I have exactly the same problem with TurboTax Online and the TurboTax iOS app, namely the 1099-G section shows "Available Now" even after I delete and reenter all the data.

The State and local tax refund box.

For TurboTax Online, try closing the program, clear your Cache and Cookies and return to the State Refund section.  Make sure you answer all the questions to the end of the section where it tells you whether your refund is taxable or not.

My online program does not show 'available now' for the 1099-G entry, only 'Revisit'.
