Try deleting the form: How do I view and delete forms in TurboTax Online?
That didn't do anything. It told me the document was deleted, but then I checked again and it was already back. I even tried the button that clears everything and starts over. I verified that then the document was not available to delete. Once I entered my W2, it came back again. I found someone else online who suggested the W2 entry fields were broken and it worked for them after they removed the cents from their entries. I tried that too and it didn't work for me either.
If your Medicare wages exceed $200k or $250k MFJ, the form generates. Check box 5 of your w2. Maybe a typo, a decimal in the wrong spot, something is forcing the 8959 to stay after being deleted.
If you have multiple w2 forms, make sure you didn't go over the limit. Check all box 5 amounts and add them up.
The 8959 regenerates when it feels it is needed. Your w2 is triggering it. For the cents trick to work, every number on the w2 must be rounded to the nearest whole dollar. A k-1 or other self-employment can also be pushing you over the top.
Finally, a full or corrupted cache can cause problems in TurboTax, so sometimes you need to clear your cache (that is, remove these temporary files).

That's not it. I am confident the error is in the software. I manually entered my only w-2. I am married, filing jointly, and I quadruple checked that the box 5 value was correct, and well under 250k. I cleared my cache, and even started my whole TurboTax process over again. That got rid of the 8959 until I re-entered and re-checked my w-2. Everything else in my TurboTax results matched up with what I ended up getting with the IRS free forms. Everything but the $256 of extra withholding that showed up incorrectly because of the 8959.
