How do i purchase turbo tax plus

PLUS is an add-on to Free Edition only.  PLUS is not needed on any of the paid products.  If you are wanting to unlock a prior return, we can tell you how to pay for your current 2018 product in advance, which will unlock all prior returns in the same account.

You appear to be using Live Self-Employed--the most expensive of all the TurboTax products.  Live Self-Employed is an upgrade to regular Self-Employed Edition that has on-demand live help from a CPA/EA tax pro during preparation and a final review of your return, which they will sign.    Live Self-Employed is 199.99 for a Federal return, and 44.99 for a State return.  See the FAQ for more info on your product.

How do i purchase turbo tax plus

Do I need the most expensive? I have not utilized the assistance because it isn't clear to me how to do it... and I have really been needing to review and compare my taxes from last year to this year and haven't been able to access them, which is super frustrating! The interface has really changed since last year and it is confusing to me. I don't understand how to unlock all my prior returns and would really appreciate your help in doing so. Thank you!

What do you mean by "haven't been able to access" the prior returns?   Can you at least find them?  If you are not finding the 2017 returns at all, we can tell you how to look for multiple accounts.

Or have you located the 2017 returns, and are they in that same account that you are using for 2018?   Were they prepared in Free Edition, and is access locked and it asks you to upgrade and pay for them?   If so, then in order to unlock your prior returns, you have to pay for a 2018 product in advance in PLUS or higher.

We can tell you how to pay to unlock prior returns in the same account, but you need to make a product decision first, so you'll know "what" to pay for.   If you do want PLUS, we can tell you how to downgrade to Free Edition by using "clear and start over", then once in Free Edition you can upgrade to PLUS.   But you may need to still upgrade to a higher product later on after that, depending on what all is in your return, especially if you have a self-employed business.

I don't know what edition you need.  It depends on what kinds of forms you need in your return.  If you have a self-employed business that needs Schedule C, then you can use regular Self-Employed (i.e. no live tax pro) at 119.99 for Federal and 44.99 for a state return.

If you DO want Live Self-Employed, see these FAQs:

If you do NOT want Live Self-Employed here's how to remove the Live feature.  There are 2 methods depending on how you got there.

How do i purchase turbo tax plus

I'm in the free version.. and I used the same login, but recently changed my username so maybe that's goofing things up. When I try and look at 2017 it says I need to pay, for Live to access  my documents. I may also need help looking for multiple accounts please

And I'd like to just purchase the regular Self-Employed like you suggested

Next to your username above it says "Live Self-Employed" so that's how we got off track.  I don't know where that indication came from.    I don't know what all you are doing.  This is getting more and more confused.

Let's start over, a step at a time.
Are your 2017 and 2018 returns in the same account or not?

What edition are you using for 2018?  i.e., when you are working on your 2018 return, what edition is displayed in the upper left corner near the TurboTax logo?   Does it say Free Edition or something else?

If you are in Free Edition, I can tell you how to upgrade it to PLUS for 19.99 as long as you are in the same account as 2017.
Or if you are sure you want Self-Employed edition, I can tell you how to upgrade from Free Edition to Self-Employed Edition for 119.99.
When you pay for one of those with credit/debit card, it will unlock all returns in the same account.

How do i purchase turbo tax plus

I believe I now have two turbotax accounts. I recently paid because I thought this is what I needed to do in order to sync my 2017 tax return. But, it looks like I am also able to sign into another turbo tax account (that looks very different- but is the same I used last year). However, when I try and use the "help" or "support" button it takes me back to THIS site!? I have been circling now for 3 hours! This is crazy. Please help me!

How do i purchase turbo tax plus

The other turbo tax I have is called "home and business" if that helps. Can you please help me merge them? Or must I begin all over again?! Using the other "home and business" account. And if so, how can we refund the huge sum I just paid (to TurboTax Live) to try and upload last years info? Obviously I didn't realize that I was signing into a completely different system. This is confusing and very misleading. Please help.

Oh, my.  You do have a big problem, and need to talk to TurboTax Support to help you with straightening all that out so you won't pay twice.

Home and Business Edition is software installed on one's computer.  You may have registered it in an account, but it is not prepared online like Online TurboTax.  And yes, the 2 "looks" of the interfaces are quite different.      See my full answer below on how to reach Customer Support during the day.

Home and Business Edition is a desktop CD/download version; i.e., software installed on your computer.   It is completely different from Online TurboTax.   And you're right in that it has a completely different look from the online version.

You have your desktop product and Online TurboTax all mixed up.   Those cannot be merged because they are 2 completely different platforms.  But TurboTax  Support can help you straighten it out so you don't have to pay twice, and get you your 2017 tax files.

This is too complicated to straighten out in a user community forum in a bulletin board setting like this.  You need realtime help from Support.  And nothing fee-related can be handled here anyway.   I'll tell you how to phone TurboTax Support.  They are open 5AM-9PM (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern) 7 days/week.

Use the form at the link below to schedule a call back, or it may provide a number.  Hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern) 7 days/week.

Where the form asks what product you are using, be sure in the dropdown menu to indicate "CD/download" and the proper operating system, then indicate "Home and Business Edition."
