The last time I used turbo tax the w2 was automatically uploaded from previous returns, why is it not doing the same thing this time?

probably because the year is not over yet and employers have until the end of January to provide W-2s.

And even when W-2's are available for import (which they are NOT yet) it is not "automatic" -- you still have to take some steps to import your 2020 W-2. Your employer has until Feb. 1 to issue your 2020 W-2.
