If you are referring to itemized deductions entered on Schedule A, the standard deductions have nearly doubled over 2017 and so it takes a lot more itemized deductions to add up to more than the new standard deductions. There is also a new limit for SALT deductions (property taxes and state and local income or state and local sales taxes). The limit for the total of them is $10,000. The amount owed number is initially based on the standard deduction and won't change until all your itemized deductions add up to more than the standard deduction.

Here are the new standard deductions:

Single - $12,000 add $1,600 if age 65 or older

Married Filing Separately - $12,000 add $1,300 if age 65 or older

Married Filing Jointly - $24,000 add $1,300 for each spouse age 65 or older

Head of Household - $18,000 add $1,600 if age 65 or older
