The 3 Economic Impact Payment amounts are $0.00 on the IRS website. Help, please!

Hello everyone. I am trying to get my Economic Impact Payments, but when I log into the IRS website, the amounts of the 3 payments show up as $0.00. What does this mean?, am I not eligible for the payments?, what can I do about it?

What are you trying to do?   Did you not receive those three payments?   You cannot go to the IRS site now to get them.  You have to file a 2020 and/or 2021 tax returns to get all of them.

The first EIP --or stimulus check--- was issued in 2020  It was for $1200 for adults and $500 for a dependent under the age of 17.   The IRS used information from either your 2019 or 2020 tax return to issue those checks so they could send them out in a hurry.

The 2nd EIP or stimulus was issued in late 2020 or early 2021 and was $600 for adults and $600 for dependents under age 17.

If you did not receive the 1st and/or 2nd stimulus check you can get it by filing a 2020 tax return and using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review.   It will end up on line 30 of a 2020 tax return and will be added to your refund (or reduce your tax due).

The 3rd EIP--or stimulus check-- was sent out in mid-March or later in 2021 and was for $1400 per person--adults and dependents no age limit.

If you did not get the 3rd EIP payment you can get it by filing a 2021 tax return and using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review.   The credit will go on line 30 of your Form 1040 and will add to your refund (or reduce your tax due).

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2019, 2020 or 2021 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

If you were claimed as a dependent on a 2020 and 2021 tax return you were not eligible for the 3 Economic Impact Payments.

If you were not a dependent and did not file a 2020 and 2021 tax return you need to file those returns for the Recovery Rebate Credit.

Do you know when the online preparation will be reopened? I would like to do the whole process online, but at the same time I am worried that after the new year or some upcoming date, IRS will stop issuing the payments and I will not be able to claim them on time. What do you recommend?, do I do them by mail as soon as possible to avoid problems or do I wait until the online form is reopened?

@VientoDi You cannot prepare a 2020 or 2021 return using online software.   The only tax year you can use online software for is 2022.   In order to prepare 2020 or 2021 you need the CD/download on a full PC or Mac--not a mobile device.  And you cannot e-file it.   2020 and/or 2021 have to be filed by mail.  Do not try to combine them in any way; do not try mailing them in the same envelope.

You have three years from the original filing deadline to file a tax return and receive a refund.  So you do have time.

In an earlier reply in this same thread you were provided with links to the 2020 and 2021 software as well as links to use paper forms to mail in if you do not want to pay for the CD/download software.  Scroll up and read more thoroughly.

@VientoDi

A 2020 and 2021 tax return cannot be completed and filed online using TurboTax.  Using TurboTax you would have to purchase, download, install on a personal computer one of the desktop editions for each tax year from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

A 2020 tax return can be filed with a tax refund at any time on or before April 15, 2024 and a 2021 tax return with tax refund at any time on or before April 15, 2025.

The Recovery Rebate Credit is included in the federal tax refund for tax years 2020 and 2021.

@xmasbaby0 @DoninGA Thanks to both of you for answering me again, you are saving my life 😉💙

That little tip about not to mail the 2020 & 2021 in the same envelope is great, I was thinking of doing it 😅
