The 1099-R is in Johns name and it want to put in mine, can I do that?

No, it is important that each 1099-R be entered in the name of the spouse it belongs to. Each 1099-R is associated with a name and SSN. And the IRS will flag the error very quickly when they cannot match what you entered with the copy that they have.
