Residency Change

My wife left the Marine Corps as a resident of MN, but stationed in VA in August of 2016. After that she got a Civilian Job in VA, does this make her a Virginian resident as of 12/31/2016?

Residency Change

That would make her a Virginia resident from the date she was separated from the Military and continued her domicile in Virginia. She will be a part-year resident in each state.

TurboTax will accurately handle each state return as you select part-year residency for her and it will allow you to pay tax in each state appropriately.
