my w-2 shows box 1 wages less than box 3 & 5. Which box do I use for California Community property income?

That is because you either had health insurance through your employer or a 401K or other nontaxable benefit.  

You should have a number in 16 for your CA wages that you would use.

If not, you will use the amount in box 1.
