As we file tax Return as married joint, should we make an each account on State Department of Tax/ Finance for the estimated tax payment?

We filed tax Return 2018 as married joint. I'm self-employed, and also have a part time job.  We paid the estimated tax first period to IRS and NY state both on my name. Does my wife also need to make her own account on NY state Department of Tax/Finance for estimated tax? She doesn't have Income.

Even though she has no payment after paying as couple, I thought she still needs to make account on NY State Department to leave the record that we paid as married joint. but there is no need for her to make an individual account on State Finance website, Correct? Thank you for your help.

Once again ... when you file a joint return there is no "MY" or "HER" payments they are all OUR payments.

Yes, we know the payment is “ours”.  We’ve just heard that each of us need to creat a tax account on NY state website, like each of us has individual account for DMV. But we won’t do it because it’s not needed. Appreciate your help 🙂

Married filing jointly. We need to begin making estimated tax payments for 2019.  How is the best way to do it?

PAYING ESTIMATES
For SE self employment tax - if you have a net profit (after expenses) of $400 or more you will pay 15.3% for 2017  SE Tax on 92.35% of your net profit in addition to your regular income tax on it. So if you have other income like W2 income your extra business income might put you into a higher tax bracket.

You must make quarterly estimated tax payments for the current tax year (or next year) if both of the following apply:
- 1. You expect to owe at least $1,000 in tax for the current tax year, after subtracting your withholding and credits.

- 2. You expect your withholding and credits to be less than the smaller of:
90% of the tax to be shown on your current year’s tax return, or
100% of the tax shown on your prior year’s tax return. (Your prior year tax return must cover all 12 months.)

To prepare estimates for next year, You can just type W4 in the search box at the top of your return , click on Find. Then Click on Jump To and it will take you to the estimated tax payments section. Say no to changing your W-4 and the next screen will start the estimated taxes section.
