Hello,

I filed my taxes yesterday. There's a question about stimulus check; if I had received & I couldn't remember so I said no. Later I checked & I did receive stimulus check. I want to know, how can I fix it?

Thank you

You can submit another return correcting the amount of the stimulus check, I believe IRS will likely adjust your refund as they have track of stimulus amount paid. You can either correct or wait for an adjustment by the IRS.

You can follow these steps in TurboTax to enter your stimulus information:

  1. With your return open, search for stimulus with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
  2. Select the Jump to Stimulus in the search results to directly go to correct TurboTax page.
  3. Enter the correct information.

Contrary to the advice given by Stevos555, you cannot and should not try to submit another return to correct the error.  Once your return has been electronically filed, you cannot submit any changes without amending the tax return.

That being said, your best course of action is to simply wait for the IRS to process the return you filed.  The error will be automatically corrected and your refund will be adjusted accordingly.  You will likely also receive a letter from the IRS to explain the change in your expected refund amount.

IRS allows corrections within the prescribed time limits before due date. Yes, 1040X amended would be best.

The IRS will adjust your return for your stimulus based on their records. It's highly unlikely an amendment will be required.  Do NOT file an amendment until your return is fully processed by the IRS and ONLY then if you believe they did not make the adjustment as indicated by @AnnetteB6.
