Taxes all sorts of messed up

Last year's taxes went off without too much trouble, but this year is a nightmare. It kept getting rejected saying that the AGI didn't match, but we directly imported last year's taxes from here! So we tried to get transcripts directly from the IRS, but their site says we were nonfilers. That's funny, because I have bank statements that show the IRS took the money we owed from our bank account, and TurboTax showed that our returns were accepted.

We can't get our stimulus payments, or even our normal returns right now. You can't call the IRS, and we couldn't get a live person on the phone from TurboTax. Needless to say, my husband and I are extremely frustrated.

Any number of reasons for that. Did you mail your 2019 returns to the IRS? If so, it's perfectly possible they have not yet been processed by the IRS. That's the same reason you might be getting that 'Non-filer" status too.

When it comes to paying the IRS (if you owe) they don't always wait for your tax return to process, before they cash the check or make the ACH withdrawal from your account.

There's really not anything that TurboTax can do to help here, as they have no special relationship with the IRS on such matters. I assume you do have solid proof that you mailed your taxes to the IRS. If you e-filed, then I assume you have that Electronic Postmark printout that states your e-filed return was accepted by the IRS. Don't lose that proof. You may be asked to provide it, as you work this issue through with the IRS.

All you can really do is keep trying to contact a human at the IRS. Best of luck with that, until after the Apr 15th tax filing deadline.

I'm sorry I can't provide any "uplifting" information or help here. It is, what it is.

Nope, we efiled, and we have proof of it in a few different forms. What bothers me is that I'm getting one reason from the IRS, and a different reason from Turbotax. Not being able to talk to either one is beyond frustrating.

Sorry you are having so much trouble. I suggest you mail your tax returns in. You can still enter direct deposit information on your return so you will get your refund quicker. It usually only takes an extra week or so to get your return processed when you mail it in.

You will get your stimulus payments once your 2020 tax return is processed.
