Hey everyone!
I received my W-2 this tax season and was surprised to find that I was taxed from 2 states.
I lived in Missouri for all of 2023. In late January, I started a new job, but my contract agency still had my previous address in Illinois on file. They eventually changed it to Missouri, but for the first month or so working there, I got taxed as if I were living in Illinois.
I assume I need to file a nonresident form to get the taxes paid to Illinois back, correct? I’ll put “0” in box 16 for the Illinois state wages as well?
If that’s all correct. How do I properly report the income that I made after that? Do I just add the income it says I made living in Illinois onto the income I made in Missouri for this job?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
