Why am I receiving an error message when I try to e-file my NC state return?
Thanks for the update, I saw that somewhere else too. What sucks with TurboTax is that at filing step there is no way to just select federal tax and finish that and then come back and do state on 02/24. I will have to delete state tax then file federal only and then redo my state tax on 02/24, someone needs to do better job at making filing step easier.
@sujeetd No, you won't need to delete the state. There are a couple of things you can try.
When you get to the e-filing part of your return, you can "skip state" and file your federal alone. You'll just need to go back to the program and e-file your NC return later. Just know that you won't be able to do that until your federal return has been accepted.
Can I file my federal taxes now and skip my state for later?
The other option would be to select "File by Mail" for your state return now. Go ahead and e-file your federal return. Once the state thing has been fixed (2/24/22 hopefully), you can go back into your program and change the filing method of your state return to e-file. Again, I believe that your federal return must have the Accepted status first.
You won't need to re-do your state return, but just change the time it's being filed.
Sorry, I don't see any place to select just federal option. I am already passed payment for both state and federal and all I see is a File menu on the left side. When I go through that there is no place to just select federal. I am not sure how to get to this section as described here:
2. Pay for both your federal and state returns now and when you get to the Here are your filing options screen, select Change next to your state return. On the the Change filing method screen, select I'm not ready to file and Save.
Gosh! Okay, try this:
Choose to e-file your federal return, then for your state return, choose to "File by Mail". Once you've successfully e-filed your federal return, you can go back into your program and change the state filing method BACK to e-file.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
Lol, this is crazy - so on the File step, when I go to screen where it says File by Mail OR EFile, this time based on your hint I selected By Mail which gave me next screen where I was able to change state return to not ready yet and left federal to efile. Then I was able to finish federal filing. Someone needs to word those buttons better lol 🙂 - how would I guess that file by mail will take me to option where I can select one or other. Thank you for your patience and help. Hope someone else will find this thread helpful if they are stuck in similar situation.
Just SO glad you were able to get something accomplished!
