Tax Year 2016: What are the final return filing requirements for a spouse who died in 2015

My husband died in Nov. 2015.  In 2016 he received a W2 for 3rd party sick pay in the amount of $2,074.33.  How do I report the 2016 income since he died last year?  All of his assets were left to me in a trust.  Should I report the income on my tax return and then take a IRD deduction?  Where is an IRD deduction listed?

If that income was paid to you as the surviving spouse, you would report it.  It should show your Social Security Number on the form.  The payment isn't subject to social security, Medicare, or FUTA taxes so that should be blank or zero on the form.

If it is reported with his social, you don't need to include it.   That said, normally, the Third Party sick pay after the year of death would have your name and social as I said above.  If it doesn't, you may want to verify the W-2 is correct as reported.

Also, I am sorry for your loss.
