Tax refund/payment changed after clicking review

I completed entering all of my information for my taxes and TurboTax showed a small refund for both Federal and state. I then clicked to begin the review and immediately the refund changed into owing over $1,000 for federal and around $300 for state.

I am very concerned about this because TurboTax did not warn me that I needed to change anything or that it had changed anything. The numbers just changed. I think this could be a TurboTax bug. I looked for a way to open a support ticket with Intuit but was unable to locate how to do that.

Help is greatly appreciated!

Tim

Have you reviewed all of your entries to see if any changes were made?  You can review your tax summary in TurboTax by following these steps:

From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)

  1. Select Tax Tools
  2. On the drop-down select Tools
  3. On the pop-up menu titled “Tools Center”, select View Tax Summary
  4. On the left sidebar, select Preview my 1040

Tax refund/payment changed after clicking review

I finally had the time to go over the values on form 1040 compared with my individual tax reporting documents. It appears that everything is correct on form 1040. I am disappointed and frustrated that the numbers changed, but I believe that the current numbers are correct.

Upon initializing the review of my 1040 forms the program recycles me to filling in W-2 forms when I already filled in my 1040 R forms.  This resulted in my tripling my income and also the taxes I was having to pay.

I saved that filing and called Tech Support. By the time Tech support called I had already started a new filing and going through everything again skipping the deductions section entirely.  I filed that after saving it again twice.

IRS accepted it and deducted the amount from my bank account that same day.

There is a problem with IRS updates to Turbo Tax and the deductions section. I should not have had to fill out W-2 forms in the review section since I do not get W-2 forms to file.

The same thing happened to me and I had the same reaction you did. I keep looking for an entry that went missing but I can’t find anything so I guess I just owe the money and the calculation was wrong about the refund.
