I have little to submit other than W-2 and Sch D loss carry forward...I have no kids to claim, no investments, Ino home. Do I have to get the deluxe since I have so little to report. DId not know which product to put below, that is my question?
Unfortunately, the least expensive version of the TT software available to you to prepare a 2017 return now is Deluxe. You waited past the filing deadline so you cannot use online software now, nor can you e-file. Online tax prep and e-filing for 2017 is permanently closed. The "free" option would be to get the forms from the IRS and prepare them by hand.
If you need to prepare a return for 2015, 2016, or 2017 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)
Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return.
Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.

Don’t forget your state. And you will have to print and mail your returns. So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
You can probably find 2017 TurboTax Deluxe at a lower price from a reputable online seller. Stick to the major online retailers. A web site that you never heard of, or that appears to sell only tax software, is probably a scam.
If you don't have to file a state return, you could use TurboTax Basic, which is less expensive. Basic for 2017 is no longer available on TurboTax.com, but you can get it from a reputable online seller. But if you need the state, Deluxe is your best option.
TurboTax Deluxe comes in two versions, with or without the state. Online sellers carry both versions. If you buy online and you need the state, make sure you are getting the version that includes the state.
