Hello ,
Can I file my taxes still even if I didn’t do a formal application to extend my taxes. I do not owe taxes as far as I know. I didn’t have a photo Id at the time of doing my taxes.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Online tax preparation and e-filing will be available until mid-October; after that, you will need to use the downloaded desktop software on a full PC or Mac, and your tax returns will have to be filed by mail.
If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline. If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.
Hello Edmaple96,
Yes, of course, you can still file your taxes even if you didn't file an extension. If you are in a refund situation or no balance due, then there is no penalty for filing late.
You will need to enter your ID info if you try to e-file. If you're filing by mail, then you don't need to enter the ID info.
Thanks for asking question, enjoy your day!!
Will the IRS take it out the penalty upon my return or will I be charged later?
Hi Edmaple96,
The IRS will make any correction to the refund at the time of processing. The check, if any, that you will receive the amount after any additional tax or interest has been removed. will be your. The refund received will be entirely yours!
Goodluck to you!
Great question!!
The IRS and Maryland software will help you figure if there is underpayment interest.
You can have it added to your return or have them bill you.
But, having said that, if you do not owe anything or are getting a refund, there will be no interest or penaties.
One a side note,
if you have a refund coming, it is important to file your return within 3 years of the due date (April), to receive that refund. Otherwise, they will keep your refund. State rules may vary!
I sure hope this has been helpful.
If you reply back, I will try to keep an eye open to assist further.
Please give me a thumbs up if this was helpful.
