My Tax for line 16 of the 1040 is coming from the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet 2023. Line 22 of that worksheet is supposed to figure the tax from the tax table but the result is not from the tax table is is a slightly higher amount. I don't have any capital gains so that isn't the issue.

The tax table does not use brackets or exact percentages. If you are using the tax table you cannot calculate the tax using a percentage. Each line of the tax table covers a $50 range of income. The tax is the same for any amount of income in the $50 range. So there can be a variation of as much as $5 or $6 from an exact percentage. You have to look at the tax table and use the figure in the table for your taxable income and filing status.

On the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet in TurboTax, what are the exact amounts on lines 5 and 22?
What is your filing status?
What do you think is the correct amount that should be on line 22?
We in the 10% bracket of the tax tables. But the amount in line 22 is $3 greater than 10% of line 5.

UGH! Thank you. Some how I linked to tax brackets instead of the tax table by mistake. The tax is correct in the tax table. Thank you for getting me pointed to the right thing!
