I just got a notice from NYS stating my 529 plan earnings from non-qualified withdrawals was handled incorrectly on my 2022 tax return. I looked at it, and while I checked the correct box in TurboTax that it was a non-qualifying withdrawal, TurboTax incorrectly deducted earnings and now I owe $775 to NYS. I'm waiting for the 2023 notice with penalty. This is a TurboTax program issue. Users rely on the program to correctly complete the forms if all the questions are answered correctly by the user. I should not have to pay this extra tax and definitely shouldn't have to pay the interest and penalty added to it because TurboTax can't handle NYS tax returns. How do I get this remedied? I can't find an address to send anything to or a phone number to call. Customer service is apparently non-existent for this program.
