Tax program is noting an error on Oregon State return requiring a State Tax ID number for the investment house. I have contacted the Investment house, spoken to my Financial advisor and finally called the State of Oregon who all say that this number is not required. Can you tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it?
URGENT really.

It isn't actually clear where you are seeing this....
But as a guess...try this:
1) Edit that 1099-INT form.
2) Go down the main form page to boxes 15,16,17
3) If box 17 has a zero of any kind, 0.00 , in it...delete it entirely, making it blank
4) make box 16 blank too
5) make sure no state is selected in box 15....leave it in the top selection ...leave it in the grey "Select a State" position.
then continue on thru the rest of the questions....out to the main menu....and see if that has cleared it.
(a zero in box 17 causes a lot of problems like this...but I can't know if it's what messing up yours.... )
You can post the Federal Tax ID number (EIN) in the State ID Box. This will often clear the problem.
Thank you for your quick response. The Fed ID is 10 digits and Oregon is evidently 8 digits. This wasn't required last year so I don't have anything in my notes about this. Even called Oregon and the tax department said it was not necessary. Maybe another state and Turbo added it to Oregon, too, by mistake?
You are referring to an Oregon Business Identification number. It is a number companies need to do business in that state. If your investment company is reporting income to that state, it is likely they have such a number. They may have indicated you don't need the number, but if they have such a number then they should be willing to give it to you. I suggest you call them again and explain that, you may just be talking to the wrong person.
Thank you all for your suggestions. Calling the investment house several times netted no result, the Oregon tax board says it is not needed, and yet Turbo tax still counts it as an error on the return when I don't have it. Turbo Tax, is this an error on your part? Do I just push the return through even though there is an error? thank you again

thank you for your help. Unfortunately I don't have the boxes filled in any way (I highlighted and deleted the contents just in case there were a phantom notation. This federal return is vexing me 🙂
UPDATE: For some reason my smart check went through the second time. Thank you all for your help
You might need to delete the form entirely...then start from scratch...and put it in yourself manually...do not import, nor upload a picture or PDF...use the "Type it in myself" procedure.
OK, apparently OK now
