I purchased TurboTax Deluxe which included one free State Download. I live in New Hampshire, and am not required to file a state return, but the software included it under Your State Returns by default. I must have opened it by mistake when trying to remove it, and cannot get the free download for either of the two other states that I have to file in.

TurboTax Deluxe includes one free State Download. Since New Hampshire does not require a state return, the software adds it by default, which might cause confusion.
To resolve your issue:
1. Do not file or finalize the New Hampshire state return if not required.
2. To get your free state download for your actual filing states, make sure you select or add those states' returns properly under Your State Returns.
3. Removing the default New Hampshire return is tricky, but the free state download applies to the first state you file a return in.
4. If you're unable to get the free download for your other states, try restarting TurboTax and carefully selecting the correct states before entering state income.
New Hampshire appears by default but does not count against your free state download.
I tried all of the above and was still unable to get a free state download. I did not file a NH return and still had to pay for state returns for two other states. Is there a way to get a refund for one of the state downloads that was supposed to come with the Deluxe package?
