standard deduction for married filing separately

My (husband) filing status will be married filing separately (wife's fixed/firm/immovable decision).  I want to take the Standard Deduction on my return.  Turbo Tax won't let me take the standard deduction because Turbo Tax has somehow falsely assumed that my wife will itemize deductions on her married filing separately return even though my wife actually will also elect the standard deduction (i.e., we will both be taking the standard deduction on our married filed separately tax returns).  How can I fix this false assumption (that my wife will be itemizing deductions on Schedule A) on Turbo Tax for my tax return so I can get the standard deduction?

Yes, we can fix this. In the Personal Information section you must be sure you did not select the following.  This would indicate one of you IS itemizing deductions which would require the other spouse to do the same.

  • 'Either Spouse or I will claim itemized deductions' on the screen titled 'Tell us a bit more about ___'
