Hi,
My wife received an SSN late last year. We have used her ITIN to file taxes jointly for the past two years.
Just now I tried to file via turbotax using her SSN with filling jointly and it asked for "Wife's AGI from 2023". She didn't have any income for 2023. Since we filed a joint return, I entered the combined AGI on our tax return and submitted it. The return got rejected citing the AGI didn't match. I suspect it's due to the ITIN records and the new SSN has no official records or so with the IRS. We also visited IRS office couple of weeks back and requested to transfer the ITIN records to SSN. Not sure how long it will take for this to finish.
1. Should I file my taxes with the SSN or ITIN ?
2. If I end up using the SSN, should my wife's AGI be 0 ?
What should I do now ? Please advise. I owe federal taxes for 2024. I am not sure how to proceed now.
